George,
Crashes and freezes are definitely not normal.
I have looked up your processor, and it seems to be very light (speed per core is close to that of a Pentium 4 from 5 or 6 years ago). So it is possible that the CPU load gets high (around 50% would mean that 1 core is fully used); still the audio should play (maybe with hiccups).
About the memory usage (I suppose "total cpu" in your post is total memory?): Stereo Tool shouldn't use much more than about 25 MB. Could you check (assuming that you're using the Winamp plugin):
- The memory usage of Winamp without Stereo Tool (should be around 15 MB - probably more if you use other plugins as well)
- The memory usage of Winamp with Stereo Tool loaded, not playing (should be around 35 MB)
- The memory usage of Winamp with Stereo Tool loaded and playing audio (should be around 40 MB).
More questions:
- Do you get ANY sound out of it at all?
- Are you using Direct Sound Card Access (in the FM window)? If so, what happens if you turn it off?
If the memory issue is not what's causing the issues, what happens if in Stereo Tool you disable everything (enable 'bypass all' in the main window)? If that solves the problem, try what happens if you either enable filters one-by-one, or start with a lower quality setting.
What you're describing (multiple windows being opened etc.) doesn't seem to make any sense at all......
