Stereo Tool

First of all, i want to thank you HVZ for this nice program

I found a strange behavior of the Final Clipper graphs in the main window, the bar of the left channel is
hopping between the actual left and the right channel. Nothing that affects the functionality but i like
watching StereoTool, so it has struck me (hoping this is right english, translated it with the google translator..).

The real problem i have is when i hae SvtereoTool running for a long time and especially when there is much silence
the sound begins to behave as the buffer can't held full like there is not enough processing power.
But processing power is not the problem.

Ok, I've seen strange things in the Final Clipper output - but I'm not going to fix it now because I'm working on much bigger GUI changes.... (Will take some time, but I've finally started with a parameter interface code redesign, GUI redesign will be next!).

About the silence issue: Are you sure that none of the cores in your system peaks, and the CPU load doesn't increase, in this situation? I have noticed before that in case of absolute silence the CPU load can go up a lot. I have fixed this by adding some (very very very small, below -1000 dB) amount of noise at several stages (at the input, and everywhere where the noise can disappear such as after the Noise Gate). But, depending on your settings etc., I might have missed something - and the CPU load might still increase a slightly in this situation. For ASIO, the latencies are usually very small so even a slight increase in CPU load might cause the processing to be ready slightly too late.

Does the new GUI have a similar number of moving bars on the screen?
I have tried the thing with the cpu load and it does not differ between Music playing and absolute silence...
Normally i have the AGC, the Multiband Compressor, the Declipper, the Bassboost, the Final clipper and the Loudness Filter enabled
Can the changing processor speed cause problems? (My cpu clock goes from 1.6 to 4 Ghz depending on the cpu load)
I also found out that the problem not only occurres from silence, when i watch a movie i appears also but much later.

in StereoTool or changing any ASIO settings in the control panel)

Hm, this *sounds* like a buffering problem in ST... But if that were the case, more people would have complained about this. (The ASIO code hasn't been changed in over a year).

Of course, a buffering problem elsewhere (sound card driver) would sound exactly the same.

Could you try changing the sound card ASIO latency settings? (Not in ST, but for the sound card!).

yes usually 256 samples for soundcard asio latency...
also check is asio buffer in ST isn't too low and check samplerates.

Hmm, when the problem occurres an i change the Buffer Offset slider of the output device in the ASIO control panel, it gets better...
But the problem occurres again after a while, the strange thing is, it gets better again if i change the slider in the opposite direction than before.

Hmm, I found the problem... It was neither StereoTool nor ASIO, it was my virtual sound card (Virtual Audio Cable).
It has a feature called clock correction, when i set this to 100.001 the problem is gone.
Finally one thing to StereoTool with Windows 8: It works great! I can set the ASIO Buffer to 64 Samples (1.3ms) and i have not one drop out

Ow... You never mentioned Virtual Audio Cable. Yes, now it makes sense - there are often problems with VAC...
