So, I was elated to learn that Stereo Tool now supports jack. No need for WIndows to run my P15, yay! Well...not so fast. I imported my sts, fired up mixxx (Awesome program by the way), and for 5 seconds, it worked fine. Then the buffer ran out, and rather quickly at that. I didn't even have time to turn on my test transmitter to make sure the signal was being sent properly. It has a max buffer of 5 and runs down in 5 seconds, causing a 4 second silence and a stuttered return for another 5 seconds. TL;DR: Buffer is not holding steady. Jack is set to a 192k sample rate, 24-bit audio, and is essentially the same as my Windows audio configuration. The sound card is capable, as it is the same I've always used. Having used other applications in Linux, they all work fine. Any suggestions on how to fix this? |

How fast is your pc (what is it) and how high is the CPU load? First thing to try: Lower the Quality slider (set it as low as possible, 20%, just for testing). |

3.0Ghz 4c AMD Athlon64. 6GB of RAM and a NVIDIA GTX 660 graphics card. I doubt it's that because, again; Works fine in Windows. I may have Jack set up wrong but I'm not sure where. |

The Windows version is compiled with a different compiler which might have a big effect on CPU load. I don't know how big the effect is though - that's why I asked you to test what happens if you lower Quality. Note that for certain bad Jack settings this might help as well; at least it will tell us more ![]() |

All the way down to 20% and it still only lasts about 5 seconds. My JACK settings are as follows: Quote: Frames/Period: 4096 (Having this at 512, default, doesn't change anything).
Interface is over an ALSA card which is an onboard Realtek. Again, having done tests in GNURadio as well as my normal Windows environment; the card can handle it just fine. Also like WIndows, ST doesn't pass 30% usage on CPU load. (Haven't checked individual cores in htop but it doesn't impact anything I have seen). Sample Rate: 192khz Periods/Buffer: 10. I think this might be it but having never dealt with this option, I'm not sure what to do with it. I have run ST by itself, and have it run with Mixx, its production chain. |
