Post subject:  TAPE RESTORE LIVE - using with Studio Playlist software

Greetings,

I know this may be the wrong place to ask, but I can not find any forum support for Tape Restore Live. :|

I am using the automation software Studio Playlist (www.studioplaylist.com), which in later versions uses its own audio engine and, unfortunately, no longer supports most Winamp plug-ins, including Tape Restore Live. I want to use the 'phase correction' feature in Tape Restore as I play 50's and 60's oldies, many of which have phase error problems.

I can not find a 'stand alone' version of Tape Restore, which would solve my problem. Is there a way to take the output of Studio Playlist and feed it to Winamp and then have Winamp output the audio from the computer? Is there a way to do this with virtual cables? If so, how might that be accomplished? All I need from Tape Restore is the phase correction part of the program. If Hans would offer the phase corrector as a stand alone program, all my problems would be solved - but that is probably dreaming. (It would be a handy stand alone! ;) )

If none of the above will work, does Stereo Tool offer the same tweakable phase corrector as Tape Restore? Since Stereo Tool is available as a stand alone, that may be easier to manipulate with, in my case, virtual cables.

Any help from the forum readers or the man, Hans, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
john...

Welcome John,

Stereo Tool does offer the same phase correction, only without restoring the high frequencies (which is needed for tape recordings, but I guess not in your case?)

In Stereo Tool, hit "RESET" to turn everything off, then go to the Stereo Image window, turn it on and enable 'Azimuth & Channel Delay'. And configure the two 'fix phasing (azimuth)' parameters similarly to how you configured them in Tape Restore Live.

As an alternative solution, if you really want the Tape Restore Live version with high frequency restoration (which needs to be set differently depending on the type of tape that's used, so I don't think it's useful in you case): Use the "Winamp LineIn plugin" ( http://home.hccnet.nl/th.v.d.gronde/dev ... index.html ) to process input directly in Winamp, and Virtual Audio Cable to send the sound there.

Notes:
- If you're playing such old recordings, the 'noise gate' in Stereo Tool is probably also very useful.
- Phase restoration can change the waveform. If some recordings are already at or near maximum peak level, and you don't want to lower the output volume, enable 'Final limiter' and 'HARD LIMIT' in Stereo Tool (Limiting & Loudness window). Together they will keep the signal within limits without audible effects.

Thank you for the suggestions and quick response!

I will give Stereo Tool and try and let you know how it works.
