Post subject: | Distortion ? |
Discussing ST on another board and a poster suggested that the first versions of ST had no determinable distortion but that later versions suffer albeit just a little. "The posters words were: The first editions of ST has no distortion, all the later version have it. CD, LP or the intern test tones, you can hear it. It is little but I hear it on the carver." Is there any truth in this and if so what could be the cause? He uses Breakaway! I am considering purchasing ST and will use a Marian card however I would like assurance of zero distortion at least on a high end receiver system as I am aiming high with my FM transmission chain. Your thoughts and comments appreciated. Transmitter Man |

Hi, I'm not sure what type of distortion that would be. Typically, the one place where distortion is created is in the clipper, and the clipper in Stereo Tool is to my knowledge the cleanest and loudest on the market. If he even hears it in test tones it has to be something else. Probably a misconfigured sound card. For example, if you send audio to the sound card at 44.1 kHz and the sound card itself runs at 48 kHz, then Windows will resample and that sounds indeed bad. To avoid that, use ASIO, WASAPI, Kernel Streaming. |
