Post subject: | Browsers + Foobar + Stereo Tool + CPU Usage |
Stereo Tool 4.22 I have been having a problem with abnormal CPU usage while using Foobar with Stereo Tool and using either the Opera or Firefox web browser. I set no extra settings on Stereo Tool other than to install it and set it to Volume Compression/Normal Compression/pop-rock/same but louder. This is my normal usage for Stereo Tool. For testing purposes, just to make sure I didn't have some crazy plugins in Opera and Firefox affecting it, I uninstalled Opera and Firefox and installed the latest clean versions with no add-ons and all settings at default. No difference. The problem is that CPU usage, *for Foobar or Winamp*, fluctuates between 20-30% when Opera is opened. It stays steady at this level. When Firefox is opened, the CPU usage for Foobar or Winamp, either one, fluctuates wildly between 5% and 45%. I'm not browsing or having multiple tabs open. I just open one of the browsers and leave it on the regular Google homepage and watch the CPU usage of either Foobar or Winamp. Also, just to be clear, I don't have Foobar and Winamp open at the same time. I open one and test them with one of the browsers open. The browser's aren't using the extra CPU cycles, Foobar is. Or, I can close Foobar and try it with Winamp and Winamp's CPU usage does the same thing. The browser's CPU usage stays at virtually zero. To make what is close to turning into an incoherent ramble short, does anyone have any knowledge of what could be making Opera and Firefox affect these music players in this fashion? If either music player is being used with the Stereo Tool turned off there is no excessive CPU usage. Also, I did try setting the CPU usage setting to "Low", for Stereo Tool, and it doesn't really have any effect with the problem I am having. Has anyone else had this problem?
