Ah yes, well theoretically though if I am processing HDCD which many times has a "soft clip" and I only want to utilize the 6dB of headroom, then 200% should theoretically allow any clipped samples to peak extend to 0 db correct? (maybe 400% to recover any samples clipped at -12db) because if a sample is restored to near-infinite peak it will simply be cut off at 0 db anyway right? If I were to just maximize the percentage at 1000%, what would be the point if the sample will still be limited at 0db, especially given HDCDs should be well-mastered? Does one setting shape the restored peak better than the other? |

Restoring with too little maximum peak will not get rid of all the harmonics, and so it will still sound distorted. In that case it's better to restore with bigger peaks and then clip them (with the clipper, which doesn't cause distortion) than to not restore them in the first place. But in some rare cases you could get peaks that are MUCH louder than they should be, and that's what this slider is for - to protect against those. So, for normal music you NEVER expect a 1000% peak to be in there, and you shouldn't set it that high. It's basically extra information for the declipper to control what it does. |

By the way, would this new singleband method work on natural dynamics too? ![]() |

No. At least I don't think so. Not with some big changes to ND anyway...

BETA 761-007 Windows 32 bit: Windows stand alone: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... 61-007.exe Winamp DSP: http://www.stereotool.com/download/dsp_ ... 61-007.exe CHANGES: - Added smoothing to oil temperature behavior for both attack and release. The compressor should be complete now. Maybe some fine-tuning can still be done (esp. wrt Oil Temperature rise and fall speeds and Shape). And, it needs to be made more usable (the settings don't mean anything to most people...). But in general, it should work now. Of course I still need to add feedback mode, ratio and side chains. Note: This is my first build on a new build system, I don't expect any issues but there might be. Oil temperature slider will make the time to reach the target level on attack roughly constant regardless of how big the jump in level is. Basically it will make the speed 'stay constant', similar to 'inertia' in the current SB and MB compressors. (But inertia has never worked on Attack and now it does). Note: I still need to make some changes (currently the oil can heat up instantly and that's not good, especially for release, so please don't use it for release; also the cooling down of the oil will affect the attack and release shape and I haven't implemented that yet in my model). OLD CHANGES: Added Oil temperature behavior which was missing from my automatic (hydraulic) door model. Will explain below... - Added another Peak mode slider in "New Singleband". The old one (from yesterday) works mainly on release, but in some cases the volume didn't go down fast enough on a loud sound. The new one works mainly on attack (higher value makes attack continue AFTER a peak. - Changed Peak mode behavior in "New Singleband". - New Singleband: Split Speed into Attack and Release Speed - New Singleband: Made Attack and Release Speed Threshold relative to Speed - so you don't need to adjust it to change the shape. - Added new Dequantizer filter to increase the bit depth of recordings. TO DO: Fix RDS time issue! viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5941&p=28209#p28209 |

Problem with stand alone download? Says 3mb and download time over 1 hour. may want to look at it. |

Quote: StereoTool.exe is not a valid Win32 application. Works fine here. Just download again. Server is bit slow last days.

Quote: Do you have a link for the VST x64 plugin of StereoTool Beta? I'd love to check out that bit depth de-quantizer function on some of my HDCDs offline
Link to 32 bit VST would also be appreciated!

This latest release(both standalone and dsp) is triggering my Avast antivirus> it says it suspects the Win32:evo-gen virus. When I scan the file it does not seem to contain a virus but the file is not executable as a valid win32 application. ![]() |
