Not the *new* Spectral Hole Filler. The rest still works. |

This is now maybe a stupid question ![]() colliding itself, in some ways, the two new filters "absolute highs" and "spectral hole filler"? when the "spectral hole filler" before the "absolute highs" filter comes, pitches have already been completed, and there then followed quite a raspy sound when the other filter also supplemented what. The "spectral hole filler" is definitely in mp3 and voices very practical. But you should be able to define the areas in which it operates. that means for me that this was supposed to work in the mainly lower pitches, since there are plenty of holes to stuff. For "absolute highs" itself completes the pitches in music better. the "spectral hole filler" itself is in voice recordings much better. which of the filter has now eminence, and under what conditions? Hans, could you please perhaps briefly outline how the two filters work together? Maybe I anything just overlooked, if so I am sorry. ![]() |

Hm, I haven't really tested them together yet and you could be right. Will look into it further, I also found today one track where it adds way too much (spectral hole). |

If combining both makes the sound bad there is something wrong with it. You could indeed be right, filling up holes is not the same thing as adding highs, but I also use it for the top area. Which might be a bad idea... The one place where I found it makes a bad ("sandy") effect is when the MP3 encoder decides to just throw away everything above a lower frequency such as above 10-12 kHz. |

@near05: Just asking here: Did you notice this harshness when you were playing "normal" MP3 files, or when you were playing test files like the ones you sent me earlier, which were lowpass filtered at very low frequencies??? |

Hi! In 7.84 version, did you have setup input 2 as analogue input of a marian trace alpha with asio? I have Spdif input as input 1, and setup input 2 as backup with asio aswell. Buffer in input 1 is constantly decrease. Any toughts of this? Hans, did you saw this topic, about GPI/GPO? -> viewtopic.php?f=16&t=7526 Regards |

I made here a test using a test file mpeg2. The result was very good, and I have not noticed any harshness. But there was at least some locations where the mpeg2 encoder has made the pitches broken, where the replenishment is not performed correctly. See the attached picture. When I switch in the filter on the histogram, so the completion looks correct. But at the frayed S-sound can still be felt very clearly that here something is wrong. You can see this on the right end of the image. This is the unedited file.

@Near05: Ok, I hear what you mean. If I play your sample with the Delossifier, some of the highs sound like an old cassette tape that has been bunched up. If I take the audio output, lowpass it at 12 kHz, and then feed that through Absolute Highs, then it sounds slightly better when the file has been Delossified before, and the 'bunched up' sound is much less (if at all) there. Not sure yet how to fix it (just letting it not fix higher frequencies doesn't sound like a very good idea, since MP3 files often lack highs and I think it needs to do something there). |
