Bojcha,

you need to have good L/R or MPX STL
We do have an MPX STL. If I am using Nexgen Digital as a playout system on the same PC as ST for the test; running VAC 4.12 to link NexGen to ST and ST out of the M-Audio 192 at 192kHz to MPX In of STL, what sample rate do I set for ST? 44.1 for Nexgen or 192 for the MPX?

We have an i7 3930K in this Engineering Test machine so I am guessing, without testing, it should run it OK for the test.

If it is MPX then 192kHz. But as i said Directly cable from soundcard to transmitter is always better way. There is even some talks about difference between 1 and 10m mpx cable!

i wouldnt run nexgen and st on the same machine. thats just me. both great products...either may behave unexpectedly.

Clipper, it's been a while since I've been around NexGen, but doesn't it now have the ability to output a direct IP stream -- meaning ST could be running on a separate CPU.

I don't know anything about Nexgen (will look later :)) but if that's true, that it supports direct IP audio, one nice 5GHz link or good internet/network line can solve you many things ;)

That's definitely true, when I used a 10 meter cable to my test transmitter I needed different calibration settings than when I used 5.

We have everything on IP over fibre so we could certainly run NexGen or any other play device from a different machine.

The MPX cable the engineering people have made for me is 1.5 metres long; it's TRS to BNC on (I think) RG59. We have setup MPX Tool on another machine which we will monitor the test with using the MPX output from one of the station's precision FM receivers.

Can I clarify that the sound card sample rate in Configuration relates to the Output sample rate and not the input? If I have an input which is 44.1kHz but an output which is 192kHz my guess is the sample rate would have to be on 192kHz so I can get the MPX signal out?

Thanks to everyone for their knowledge and assistance.

Post subject:  Re: Outputs

If your input sample rate is set to 44.1, Stereo Tool will use 176.4 (4x44.1) for FM output. That shouldn't be a problem - unless Windows starts resampling it to 192. So just make sure that the sound card is set up correctly (normally, under Windows XP it will switch automatically, however in Windows 7 you *have* to specify the sample rate the thing works on in the driver settings).

If they don't match you'll clearly see it in the MPX output (when measuring it), because frequencies will have many 'echoes' at different frequencies. So if you see that something is going wrong with frequencies.

Thanks Hans.

Should I set the sample rate to 192kHz and have the audio coming in at 44.1kHz but the MPX feeding the STL at the 192kHz rate?

We were looking for documentation today, is there any ST documentation other than what is on the Help pages of the site?

Hans, not to remove you from the more productive work of the software's development, could there be a group of users who can put their heads, and pencils, together to create some documentation? A PDF manual would be very helpful. Just a thought.

Thanks.

Either 44.1/176.4 or 48/192.

No other docs yet, I do need to do something aboutthT.
